Walls: Between the Reality and Symbolism Jang, Mi-Jin(Art Critic, Ph.D in Esthetics) ¡¡
Choi began from the entity of walls, but recognizing the illusion of
images, he entered into the spiritual dimension which exists over the
actual wall by means of escaping from imagism.
That is, he has pursued toward a notional world by dismantling the
meaning of 'painting something'.
Although he takes walls as his
motif, his main concern resides in overcoming material reality and in
reaching to the orderliness and free speculation applying the symbolic
meaning of wall.
According
to his working manner, "subtract words as much as possible and keep
silence as hard as possible", there would remain the pure forms of
consciousness or sensibility and we only can notice various psychological
moments from the everyday walls.
